The Federal Employment Agency explains that its figures represent gross employment income, are normalised to a monthly period and use the median rather than an arithmetic average.

Online searches often combine several categories under the word “nurse”. A German nursing professional, commonly described as a Pflegefachkraft, is not the same category as a nursing assistant, trainee or person working while completing recognition. Applying the €4,329 professional benchmark to every nursing-related job can therefore create an unrealistic expectation.
